A Poem by Rumi
by Alexandra Carmichael
The Essence of Ritual
Pray the prayer that is the essence
of every ritual. God, I have no hope.
I am torn to shreds. You are my first,
my last and only refuge.
Do not do daily prayers like a bird
pecking its head up and down.
Prayer is an egg.
Hatch out
the total helplessness inside.

Hopefully, not all prayers will be a request for help…but some should be a song of praise for the gifts received…enjoyed your post.
its funny how this poem on your site, should find me exactly one year from the time you posted…it found me when i most needed something like this!
I do not express it in the same way, addressing it to ‘God’, but the essence of Rumi’s poems always speaks to me.
